Chorkie

January 17, 2022

Small and spunky, Chorkies are a mix between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Chihuahua. These pups enjoy lots of attention and are great for active families. Here are some interesting facts about the Chorkie:

  • Chorkie breeding began in North America in the early 1990s.
  • Texture and type of fur can vary for each Chorkie. Some Chorkies have long, silky coats like Yorkies, and other Chorkies have coarse coats like Chihuahuas.
  • Chorkies typically weigh between 8 and 15 pounds. However, some Chorkies can be as small as 5 pounds.
  • As a mixed breed, Chorkies demonstrate traits of both Yorkies and Chihuahuas. Chorkies are most often playful, rambunctious, and even a little stubborn.
  • While Chorkies are highly trainable, they can sometimes struggle with excessive barking due to small dog syndrome. As a result, Chorkies should be trained and socialized early on, so they know when to use their inside voices.
  • Chorkie owners, rejoice! These dogs have a fairly long lifespan, ranging from 13-15 years.
  • On average, Chorkies have fewer health problems than other breeds. However, their most common ailments include obesity, hypoglycemia, and kneecap dislocation.
  • For being so little, Chorkies tend to have a big appetite! They should have regular access to high-quality dry food.

Chorkies make wonderful pets and can provide you with endless entertainment. All in all, Chorkies are little dogs made for big fun!
