Great White Shark

Great White Sharks are the largest predatory fish currently known to man. The proper name for the great white shark is “Carcharodon Carcharias.”

This species of shark belongs to the mackerel family, and they are at the top of the food chain.

Great White Sharks are known for weighing more than a few tons. They are migratory animals that can travel hundreds of sea miles each year. These powerful predators are found in almost all of the world’s oceans.

Here are some facts about the Great White Sharks eating habits. 

  • These aggressive sea predators can consume other sea-faring animals that weigh hundreds of pounds.
  • Their preferred diet is believed to be sea lions and seals.

Fun Facts: 

  • Great White Sharks have an internal temperature control system that gives them the ability to control their body temperature.
  • The largest Great Whites of the species are often female. 
  • To date, the largest recorded Great White Shark on record was discovered in Australia. This shark was almost 20 feet long. The actual measurement taken in 1987 was 19.7 feet.
  • According to Field and Stream, the great white shark has a bite that packs 4,000 PSI.
  • While not considered extinct, the Encyclopedia of Life lists the Great White as a vulnerable species.
