Mini Labradoodle

Must Try

Matilda Cruz
Matilda double majored in zoology and animal behavior at the University of Hawaii. She’s been an animal lover from a young age and knew she wanted to study them even more for her career. She’s always looking for ways to spread her animal knowledge.

These adorable dogs come from breeding Labradors with Toy or Miniature Poodles. Mini Labradoodles are part of the “designer dog” sector of the home pet market for dogs. Labradors and Poodles are medium-sized dogs. The result is a standard-sized Labradoodle.

Big Loves in a Small Package

Fortunately, for those who love Labradoodles and always wanted a smaller version? Here’s your chance! Standard Labradoodles are affectionate, friendly, and intelligent. Mini Labradoodles have the same traits as their larger cousins.

The Ideal Young Family Dog

Mini Labradoodles are small but still think they are big. The result is a fun, energetic dog tailored for young families. This is probably why the Mini Labradoodle’s popularity has recently exploded. Labradoodles are cute, but the Mini Labradoodle takes that cute to another level.

Mini Labradoodle Facts

  • Labradoodles were first bred in Australia in the seventies as a therapy service dog that was hypoallergenic. It was assumed that because Poodles don’t shed much, they would be a good match for Labradors, a service-orientated dog breed.
  • While the expected size depends on the parents, 14 to 24 inches tall is a good range. A Mini Labradoodle’s weight of between 10 to 30 pounds makes them ideal for small home environments.
  • These dogs won’t easily get tired from playing with kids. Indeed, you’ll likely see your kid taking a nap with their Mini Labradoodle laying close by, panting with satisfaction and waiting to play again.

  1. Never answered the question, do they shed????
    Probably
Is the combination of coat texture a maintenance nightmare for pet owners and groomers?
    Probably
Don’t mislead people, it is far easier and more likely to meet expectations for a lifetime pet if the predisposition of the specific breed is clear, not a muddled mess of “what if’s”. Buy a purebred Poodle or a Labrador, research the breeds for the right fit, qualify the breeder, ask for history of testing for genetic weaknesses and disease, meet the parents (if possible), ask for references, DO NOT buy over the internet…
Help educate, not mislead the public into paying thousands of dollars for a mix-breed.
