The Chihuahua, a beloved household pet, is one of the smallest breeds of dogs around. The Chihuahua was officially recognized as its own breed by the AKC in 1904.
Since earning its breeding title in 1904, the Chihuahua has become one of the most popular dog breeds in America.
The American Kennel Club lists the Chihuahua as a highly affectionate pet – with adult owners. Chihuahua’s aren’t known for being good with small children or other dogs and can be aggressive, especially when it comes to their owners.
Chihuahuas may be predisposed to developing certain health conditions. They have a lifespan of around 12-20 years. A temperate climate and regular veterinary care are required for a healthy Chihuahua.

- The Chihuahua is recognized by many as the national symbol of the country of Mexico.
- The name Chihuahua comes from a Mexican state.
- Small in stature, most Chihuahuas weigh from just over one and a half pounds.
- Most purebred Chihuahuas don’t weigh more than 6 pounds.
- A Chihuahua’s average height is between 6-10 inches. They are usually under a foot tall.
- There are both long-haired and short-haired breeds of Chihuahuas in the US.
- Purebred Chihuahuas are said to have a rounded “apple head,” which is a hallmark of the breed.
- Chihuahuas are believed to be great low-maintenance pets for city dwellers.
- They are loved for having huge personalities in very tiny bodies.

I would love another. I have a rescue one that someone dumped and he was lucky enough to come and live with us. I have had him some 10 months and just love him to death. I had a chihuahua when I was young and one of my Aunts had one that I spoiled every summer. Let me know where I can get another. Thanks
